Oideas Gael

Oideas Gael is based in Gleann Cholm Cille in County Donegal. It was founded in 1984 to promote the learning and use of Irish and to foster Irish culture within the Gaeltacht and elsewhere. The annual programme of courses and events achieves the further aim of bringing together people of Irish and other Celtic backgrounds to participate in everyday Gaeltacht life, improve their fluency in Irish and enjoy the living culture.

Courses are held between mid-June and early September and at other times during the year as well. Each year they attract learners from all over Ireland and Britain, as well as from countries such as the United States, Canada, Japan, Australia and virtually every Western European country.

Each course contains three or more levels - beginner, intermediate and advanced, and usually lasts a week. There are also cultural activity courses available in traditional music and singing, set-dancing, archaeology, hill-walking, painting and tapestry weaving.
