The Bull
and Castle
Sult has been held in The Bull and Castle (formerly known
as the Castle Inn) since it first began in October 1999.
Both poets and priests have resided at The Bull and Castle
over the centuries. In the 1600s it was home to the Usher
family, one of whom became the Archbishop of Armagh. In
1750, the grandfather of the Irish poet James Mangan ran
a porterhouse at the Castle Inn, making it probably ''one
of the first Dublin pubs to serve Guinness''.
In more recent times, the Bull and Castle has continued
this poetic tradition. Renowned as a ballad venue in the
1960s, it saw such great Irish folk legends as Paddy Reilly,
The Emmet Spiceland, The Young Folk as well as The Dubliners
play within its four walls.
With a heritage that is unique and a history that is
long, it is perhaps only fitting that The Bull and Castle
is now part of another great tradition - FXB's Seafood
and Steakhouse Restaurants. Bringing a reputation for
food and service of an exceptionally high standard, the
FXB food experience can now be enjoyed in this medieval-style
heritage pub.
Enjoy the friendly atmosphere, live ballad sessions and
award-winning steak and seafood while sampling a pint
of the black stuff, all in the heart of the Old City of
Dublin
The Bull and Castle - ''Bia den scoth i gcroílár
na cathrach''.
